History
In the year 1952, the Law classes were started in the T.N.J. College with only two lecturers namely, Sri R.N.Tewary and Sri G.S.Prasad on part time basis, and Sri R.N.Tewary was Prof. — incharge of the Department. With the increase in the number of students, two more part time hands were appointed and accordingly Late Shardanand Pandey, Advocate and Shri Durga Kant Jha, M.A., B.L. joined as part time lecturers. After one session number of students again increased & consequently Sri J.P.Shukla & Sri N.P.Sinha were appointed as part time lecturers. Subsequently, the T.N_J.College was renamed as T.N.B.College.
In 1959 when the T.N.B.College became a constituent college its law department was separated and an independent law college named as T.N.B.Law College came into existance in a rented building at Naya Bazar, Near Goshala and Late R.N.Tewary became its first part-time Principal. Sri Shyam Bahadur Prasad joined as full time Principal on the recommendation of the University Service Commission in February 1969.
The year 1984 is an important landmark in the history of the T.N.B.Law College, Bhagalpur. In the first place it celebrates its Sliver Jubilee in this year. Secondly it built its own magnificent building in its campus situated at Tilkamanjhi along with Principal's Chamber, Teachers Common Room, Accounts Office, General Office, Cash Section, Lecture Halls, Tutorial Rooms, Library and Principal quarter. The building is definitely one of the best college building in Bihar and one of the best Law College buildings in India. The most significant feature of this building is that it has built without any aid from the Government, U.G.C. or University or even from general public. Itis | mainly the contribution of the law students of Bhagalpur and therefore, it has been dedicated to the Law students of the college—past and present.
The third significant fact of the year 1984 is that the college has introduced five years law course from the academic session 1984-85 in order to implement rules framed by the Bar Council of India in exercise of the powers granted to it under Advocates Act, a Parliamentary enactment. The College has permanent affiliation of the Bar Council of India. In view of the remarkable historical background the college was converted into a constituent unit of the T.M. Bhagalpur University with effect from 23.01.1987. The year 1987 is another important Landmark in the history of the T.N.B.Law College, Bhagalpur when the Post Graduate teaching in Law (LL.M.) was started from the academic session 1987-88 with the permission of the State Govt. and the University.
I derive special pleasure in writing this note as the principal of T.N.B.Law College, Bhagalpur. This esteemed instituition ha made it's special position in the field of legal education in the state of Bihar through its service to the nation by providing several judges, politicians, administrative and law officers and learned advocates to its credit. This instituition also aspires to strengthen the Bar and the Bench by providing skillful law students as a solid base to the administration of Justice in our country.
